zac delorean

Zac Efron back in April revealed that he is a huge fan of the Back to the Future franchise and believe it our not even owns his very own DeLoreon that was given to him by his grandfather.

He also went on to say that he would love to step into the shoes of Michael J. Fox to play Marty McFly if a reboot of Back to the Future was ever made. Now, it seems he may get his chance or very close to it.

Efron who has been meeting with several studios to set up projects for himself, which he has already signed on to star and produce Fire which is a thriller. In the process of that he has made a separate deal at Warner Bros to star in a Back to the Future like film that melds two projects into one.

The first is a pitch from writers Tim Calpin and Kevin Jakubowski, and the other is a WB project called Algorithm that the studio was developing with director Nick Stoller (Forgetting Sarah Marshall). Stay tuned for updates.

Spockobama

The article was running yesterday in many newspapers across the country and can be read at MSNBC.com and other sites. This has been a subject of much debate, the week the Star Trek movie came out, the NY Times had an op-ed by Maureen Dowd on the subject.

Wake up guys and gals, Obama is no Spock, not even close, yes President Obama is a Star Trek fan and we all can appreciate that to no end, but the buck stops there. Here is why they aren't alike. Spock uses logic and reasoning most of the time, Obama doesn't, he just pushes his agenda no matter what, like printing money with nothing to back it up or base it on. Would Spock do that? I don't think so. President Obama has tripled our national debt since taking office, in other words he has spent more in less than a year than Bush did his two terms in office. Would Spock do this? I don't think so. Obama baled out failing companies then took several of them over at our (the tax payers) expense, and did exactly what the companies was going to do to start with and laid worker off. Would Spock do this? I don't think so.

Health Care is a issue that needs to be addressed, but at a cost to start it up with money we don't have to support such a venture at this time under the Obama plan, yet he pushes it anyway. Would Spock do this? I don't think so. Obama loves the lime light and attention, children in school forced to sing about him, addressing children in schools via satellite without their parents being present. On the news and TV daily even when he really has nothing to say. Would Spock do this? I don't think so.

In Star Fleet Spock was part of team that weighed options and normalcy the most logical course would be taken. With Obama his own cabinet and people in key positions have publicly criticized Obama's policies backed with facts and numbers, yet Obama ignores them and keeps pushing his agenda any way. Would Spock do this? I don't think so.

At this juncture I would have to say that Obama more or less fits the Romulan or Klingon spy who has worked his way into Star Fleet key position as to try and destroy the Federation.

Buck Rogers webisode logo

Now don’t frown as we also will have Erin Gray in it though of course she won’t be Wilma Deering, and the other great thing is none other than the James Cawley’s production team are behind the venture. James Cawley  is well known for the fan made work on ‘Star Trek Phase II‘, ‘Star Trek: New Voyages’ and is well known to most Sci-Fi fans for doing quality webisodes.

Anywho the teaser shows off Buck’s star fighter which was designed by Cawley and Jeff Hayes, and was animated by Tobias Richter. By the look of the ship and the way the teaser is put together makes it seem that this webseries will be totally Retro with a feel of the old Flash Gordon TV series from the 50’s even down to it’s logo. The Dille Family Trust is allowing Cawley to create and distribute the 20 episode Web series based on the “Generation One” Buck Rogers franchise. Unlike Cawley’s “Star Trek” productions, viewers will have to pay to watch the new Buck. But it’s worth checking out when the series hits the net, and you never know, if enough interest is shown we might just get a new Buck Rogers TV series out of it.

The pilot (“Armageddon: 2491”) for Buck Rogers in the 25th Century is slated to debut in the Fall of 2010. Some of the production is already complete, with more shooting slated for Spring. The show stars  Phase II’s Bobby Rice as Buck Rogers, and the case also includes Gil Gerard and Erin Gray from the NBC Buck Rogers TV series.

Fact sheets

PC FACT SHEET

Star Trek®: D-A-C is a fast-paced, top-down space shooter inspired by this summer’s blockbuster motion picture. This pick-up-and-play game allows you and your friends to battle it out online while piloting starships such as the U.S.S. Enterprise™. Star Trek: D-A-C will be available on the PlayStation® Network and Windows PC via Valve’s Steam distribution service on November 12, and updates will be available for Xbox LIVE® Arcade shortly after. Star Trek: D-A-C will also be available for Mac via TransGaming Inc.’s GameTreeOnline.com digital distribution platform in December. Players will enjoy all-new content, including two additional ship classes, the new Survival Mode, additional maps, new pick-ups and more. Choose your side, fire your weapons and boldly go!

KEY FEATURES:

· Arcade-Style Space Combat: Team up with players online to engage in epic space battles

· Enlist in Starfleet or Join the Romulan Empire: Play as one of the rival factions from the “Star Trek” film

· Three Different Game Play Modes:

o Single-Player: Practice against AI bots to become an expert captain

o Online Multiplayer: Twelve players (six per team) compete in intense online battles

o Online Co-Op: Team up with friends to combat in space against AI ships

· Four Different Game Types:

o Survival: In this all-new single-player mode, Starfleet captains have only three lives to blast through waves of enemy ships. When destroyed, enemy ships and drones drop special ability and score pick-ups, and players are challenged to grab as many as they can before their lives run out. Top scores will move players to the top of the leader boards and Starfleet ranks. Players will battle AI controlled Romulan ships and three new ships types exclusive to Survival Mode:

§ Space Pirate: a speedy flyer with the most loot to drop

§ Ramming Drone: an offensive fighter that attacks by crashing into players’ ships kamikaze-style

§ Demolition Drone: A slower, deadlier drone that destroys everything around it when it explodes

The mode also features a points-based pick-up system and two new “super” special pick-ups:

§ Temporal Shift: Everything slows down – except you

§ Fire Everything: Fire all of your weapons without depleting your energy stores

o Team Deathmatch: Teams go head-to-head in a no-mercy, “kill or be killed” fight to the finish. The deadliest team at the end of the time limit will emerge victorious!

o Conquest: Team strategy is key as two opposing teams battle to take over and defend three control points and home base in space. The team that takes over all four – or the most before the time runs out – wins!

o Assault: Teams take turns conquering and then defending a sector of space. While one team defends, the other team attempts to capture four control points and the enemy base. Teams switch sides when time runs out or the base falls. Ultimately, the team that attacked the fastest and defended the longest wins!

· Engage in Stereoscopic 3D Battles:

o NVIDIA 3D Vision Compatibility: Equipped PC players are fully immersed in a stereoscopic deep space experience. Planets, ships, space stations, meteors and asteroids jump off the screen in 3D with incredible realism

· Superior Graphics and NVIDIA PhysX Compatibility:

o Stunning Intergalactic Environments: With visuals inspired by the “Star Trek” film, players fight in a diverse array of outer space settings

o PhysX Effects: Players with an NVIDIA GeForce GPU in their PC can experience dynamic NVIDIA PhysX effects including blazing explosions and reactive debris for truly impressive authenticity

· Five Ship Classes for Each Faction: Each ship provides unique capabilities in combat

o New! Missile Cruiser: The all-new heavy artillery Missile Cruiser has a longer range and more powerful attack than any other ship in the game, but its low rate of fire and slower speed leave it vulnerable to close range attacks, particularly from smaller and faster opponents

o New! Support Frigate: No fleet is complete without the all-new Support Frigate. Its presence can turn the tide in a large-scale conflict, as the Support Frigate’s ability to heal ships gives its teammates the edge. The Support Frigate’s auto-targeted beams are devastating to unshielded targets, such as escape pods, turrets, mines, and asteroids. With its limited offensive capabilities, the Support Frigate must rely on its teammates for protection

o Bomber: The smallest and fastest ship, the Bomber dives in and out of dangerous, close-quarters situations, leaving destruction in its wake. Its speed comes at an expense, however, as it is also the most fragile ship in the game – and its powerful bombs can only be dropped a few times before it must replenish its energy reserves

o Fighter: Fast and agile, the Fighter uses its versatile 360-degree firing ability and small size to harass enemies from a distance. When fully upgraded, the Fighter’s homing missiles give it a powerful punch. Like the Bomber, its weakness lies in its limited durability.

o Flagship: The largest, slowest, but most durable ship in the game, the Flagship fires powerful torpedoes that explode on impact and inflict splash damage. Although its auto-firing phaser helps keep ships with shorter range at bay, its reticule-based targeting system is its most powerful weapon. However, the reticule system can be tricky for novice captains to master, and its large size and slow speed make it a tantalizing target for ships like the new Missile Cruiser

· New Gameplay Enhancements: Updates for the game include:

o Variable AI Difficulty Settings: Choose to play against AI set to easy, medium or difficult

o Customizable Game Settings: Select your own time and kill limits

· Change the Course of Battle With a Variety of Power-Ups & Special Pick-Ups: Gamers now have three all new pickups (for a total of eight) to use in battle. Since Romulans and Starfleet captains fight differently, their pick-ups are designed to echo their styles.

· Romulans play dirty and are brutal in battle, so their pick-ups center around destruction:

o Astral Storm: Emit an energy pulse around you, inflicting damage on all enemies in your vicinity

o Energy Flux: Shoot and speed through the map without draining your energy

o Cloak: As an invisible enemy, you can sneak up on your enemies and deal devastating damage

o Holomine: It might look like a special pick-up, but watch out…

· Starfleet captains emphasize speed, strategy and teamwork, and so do their pick-ups:

o Max Impulse: Boost your speed without depleting your energy

o Invulnerability: Give, but don’t take on any damage

o Wing Man: Create an AI-controlled mirror image of yourself, ready to take down your enemies

o Quantum Torpedo: A seeking missile to take down even the most elusive enemy

Unlock Achievements and Trophies: Some Achievements, such as the Kobayashi Maru, are impossible to unlock….unless you cheat

Micronauts

The line consisted of 3.75-inch tall action figures, vehicles,  robots, play sets, and accessories which used a universal, five millimeter inter-connective design. Although deemed a success, Mego cancelled the Micronauts line in 1980.

The toys were also turned into comic books published Marvel Comics, Image Comics, and Devil's Due Publishing. Their first comic appearance was in "Micronauts #1" by Marvel in January, 1979.

Abrams told the newspaper that those who doubt whether a board game or science-fiction toy can become stars, will be proven wrong.

"Sometimes, when someone is not a celebrity and you are casting them in a role, everyone who is in a seat of authority voices questions about that actor's talent, sex appeal, looks, ability — their everything," he says. "But then they get the role, and suddenly they are on the cover of every magazine, and nobody questions those things again. In retrospect, everyone says, 'Of course that person is a star.'"

Original Article
Star Trek, which chronicles the early days of James T. Kirk and his fellow USS Enterprise crew members, will be digitally re-mastered into the unparalleled image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience.

Star Trek is one of the world’s most successful science fiction entertainment series and media franchises. Created by Gene Roddenberry, the Star Trek phenomenon has lead to six television series, ten feature films, dozens of computer and video games, hundreds of novels and fan stories, as well as a themed attraction in Las Vegas. Star Trek has also inspired a following of millions of "Trekkies" of all ages that span across the globe.

"We’re excited to share the enhanced IMAX version of this film with the millions of dedicated fans who have been anticipating this release since production began," said Rob Moore, Vice Chairman, Paramount Pictures. "The IMAX Experience adds that extra level of excitement to an already action-packed film, giving moviegoers a premium ‘event’ at the multiplex."

Added J.J. Abrams, "I’m thrilled that audiences will be able to experience this new, epic world of Star Trek – with an incredible cast and mind-blowing visual effects – on what is, obviously, the most remarkable film format in the world."

What do you think of the new banner?

"When Sylar meets his father, he’s going to see a path ahead of him that he doesn’t want to take," reveals an insider. "He has a lot more in common with his father than he realized."

Producer Bryan Fuller, who will be returning to the show explained that "Heroes" will now once again be character-driven. "It’s not necessarily a reboot as much as it is going back to the basic spirit of the show and pulling people back in," he explained. "We’re also going to tell fewer stories per episode. We’re going to limit it to three or four with one big one that you can wrap the stories around. We’re altering the structure of the show so that there’s a very clear A story that takes up a larger percentage of the show so that that story gets traction."

He also talked about what we can expect from the upcoming episodes. Fuller said: "People will die. And some will return. Matt’s wife [Janice] comes back. We’ll find out what happens when you have a superbaby."

But even with this news at this point I’m not sure the show can be salvaged and I don’t think any star can help get the ratings back, the fan base for the show has just lost all interest and are just tired of all the none followed through promises for the last two seasons. But we are glad to see Glover back in action and hopefully this time the son won’t kill him off.

What do you think?
