  • Many Nietzscheans share their first names with historical or mythological figures. Tyr is the Norse God of Warfare. Tyr Anasazi’s parents are Victoria (after the British Queen) and Barbarossa (after the German emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, Frederic Barbarossa). Charlemagne Bolivar, leader of the Sabra-Jaguar Pride, takes his names from the French Emperor Charlemagne and Simón Bolívar, the South American freedom fighter.
  • In the pilot episode, Kevin Sorbo is described as a “Greek God”, a reference to his earlier role as the star of the TV series “Hercules: The Legendary Journeys” (1995).

  • The quotation which opens the 100th episode of the show (“Pride Before the Fall”) includes an oblique reference to two of the show’s production companies, Tribune Entertainment and Fireworks. The same episode closes with a blooper reel under the credits.
