One episode into the second seasons of "Nurse Jackie" and "United States of Tara," Showtime has picked up the two shows for third seasons.
As the pay-cable channel is wont to do, it announced the pickups Thursday (March 25), just three days after "Jackie" and "Tara" had their season premieres.The Big Bang Theory Seasons 1-2 DVD Boxset The two shows got off to pretty decent starts Monday night: "Nurse Jackie" drew 1.1 million viewers in its 10 p.m. debut and added 400,000 more with an encore later in the night -- an improvement of 13 percent over its premiere double-dip last year.
"Tara" was more or less in line with its premiere last year -- 816,000 for its 10:30 p.m.True Blood Seasons 1-2 DVD Boxset showing and a cumulative 1.2 million for two showings. Both shows get substantial bumps from repeat showings, DVR and on-demand use.
"Showtime is enormously proud of these two series starring two of the best actresses working today," Showtime Entertainment president Robert Greenblatt says. "Both are iconic shows for our brand and our thanks to the dedicated producers, cast, and crews who work so hard to make them so great. ... Strong women will continue to rule on this network for a long time to come."
Each show received a 12-episode order for next season, The Vampire Diaries Season 1 DVD Boxset and both will go back into production later this year for a likely 2011 premiere.
