Producer Talks ‘Pirates 4,’ ‘National Treasure 3’ and ‘Lone Ranger’

Bruckheimer revealed that the new sequels for both "National Treasure" and "Pirates of the Caribbean" are currently being written. "We’ve sat with the writers and we’re working up the story and plot-lines right now," he said. "They’re in the process of finishing ‘The Lone Ranger’ so they’re working on both of those simultaneously, same set of writers, Elliot and Rossio, who did all three ‘Pirates’ and worked on ‘National Treasure (2)’."

When asked whether they might consider making "Pirates of the Caribbean 4" for the IMAX screens, similar to what Warner Bros did with "The Dark Knight," Bruckheimer responded: "Absolutely. I’d love to do it, so let’s just see if we can work it through the production schedule with everything else."

He added that the studio is pushing for a 2012 release for "Pirates of the Caribbean 4." "Hopefully we can make it we’ll see," said Bruckheimer.

Regarding "The Lone Ranger"… It was recently revealed that Johnny Depp would play Tonto in the film, leaving a place for rumors to being circulating about who will play the title character. One actor who keeps being mentioned is George Clooney. However, Bruckheimer denied his casting: "We haven’t decided who is going to play the Lone Ranger yet. Get a director first and then figure it out."
