The IRIS is Closing on GateCon

“Gatecon has had an incredible run, and the fans, actors, and studios have been amazingly supportive of us, but we have decided to go out on a high note after our tenth convention,” Richard Pasco, one of Gatecon’s owners, said in a press release.

“With corporate events dominating the convention landscape now more than ever, we have shown that a quality product can be achieved with the right mindset and that quality over quantity is the way forward,” Pasco said.

GateCon who has been holding events in both Vancouver and London for exactly a decade now. GateCon even predates the Creation Entertainment’s acquisition of the “official” Stargate convention license from MGM.

GateCon organizers cited financial and personal reasons for the decision to end the conventions after next year. The final event will take place at the Sheraton Wall Centre in Vancouver, July 8 to 11. So far 27 guests have been confirmed for the event with most being attached to the Stargate Franchise but there will also be some other Sci-Fi favorites, and more quest should be confirming soon. Headliners include actors such as Beau Bridges (“Hank Landry”), Lou Diamond Phillips (“Colonel Telford”), Corin Nemec (“Jonas Quinn”), Cliff Simon (“Baal”), and Teryl Rothery (“Janet Fraiser”).
