The matter was taken to the Los Angeles courts, where a federal judge first set a January 2009 court date. As the two studios began preparing for a battle the judge turned and ruled that there is no reason to go to court because Fox did hold the copyright for "Watchmen."
"Fox owns a copyright interest consisting of, at the very least, the right to distribute the ‘Watchmen’ motion picture," the ruling said.
The judge strongly advised both Fox and Warner to look toward a mutual settlement or an appeal. "The parties may wish to turn their efforts from preparing for trial to negotiating a resolution of this dispute or positioning the case for review," he said.
What this means for the "Watchmen" movie is still unknown, but we will be keeping a close eye on this, so stay tuned to see what happens.
